Anitta, a Grammy nominee and international phenomenon, performed on the VMAs stage for the second time on Tuesday.
Anitta converted the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey into a full-on dance party as she performed popular songs from her most recent EP, Funk Generation: A Favela Love Story, surrounded by a sizable neon backing dance troupe. The Brazilian singer, who was introduced by Madelyn Cline of the Outer Banks, played "Used to Be," "Funk Rave," and "Grip" from the most recent album as part of her set.
The "Boys Don't Cry" performer, who was nominated among artists including Bad Bunny, Karol G, and Shakira, won for best Latin music video at the awards ceremony for the second consecutive year. Anitta made VMAs history the previous year when she won the best Latin award for her viral hit song "Envolver" and became the first Brazilian artist to do so.
