In football, a single play may decide the outcome of the game.

In a Division I Heartland Athletic League game on Monday afternoon, Lewisburg's girls suffered a 1-0 loss to Montoursville. The game-changing goal was scored by Warriors rookie Faith Berwanger in the 30th minute.

A Lewisburg player shoved another player in the back, giving the Warriors a free kick just outside the area. Izzy Wood (11 saves) of the Green Dragons dove to save Bryn Jacopetti's original shot, but Wood parried the ball directly to Berwanger, who easily put it in the back of the goal to give the Warriors the lead midway through the first half.

Fernando Ortiz, the Lewisburg coach in his first season, stated, "It's simply one of those bad plays." Unfortunately, things are going to happen. Just one instance like that.

Despite the fact that his squad had previously defeated Benton and Mifflinburg, Ortiz bemoaned the fact that they had conceded the free kick in a risky spot.

We simply slipped, he said.

Lewisburg missed a few excellent scoring opportunities.

Teagan Osunde's accurate corner pass gave the Green Dragons a fantastic chance to score after five minutes, but the shot was right at the Montoursville goalie, Anna Baylor.

In the second half, Baylor, who ended the game with five saves, made a crucial stop to preserve her perfect record. She used her fingertips at the near post to save a low attempt just minutes into the second half.

All game long, (Baylor) made several excellent stops, according to Ortiz. She undoubtedly kept them competitive.

The Green Dragons had the most of the ball in the first half, but they had trouble making the pass that would open up a chance. The Warriors, who are 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the HAC-I, took control in the second half, limiting Lewisburg to just one shot.

According to Ortiz, "I think in the first half we were on a full tank." Then, I believe we were using only 3/4 of a tank in the second half.

"You don't have time to slow down when you're playing against a squad like Montoursville."

Similar to the previous year, when the Green Dragons lost to the Warriors in double overtime by a score of 2-1. After a 1-0 victory in 2020, the Green Dragons have failed to defeat Montoursville.

The Lewisburg program's assistant since 2020, Ortiz remarked, "With Montoursville, you always expect a solid match." "The pairing worked well. Really sad that we didn't take advantage of some of our opportunities.

The Green Dragons (2-3, 0-1) have had a shaky start to the year and have been unable to pull together victories. They get a second opportunity on Wednesday at Shamokin (1-4). Last year, Lewisburg thrashed the Indians 8-0.

For Wednesday, Ortiz added, "I'm hoping maybe we can regroup and connect some passes and transition quicker." "In this game, our passing was just not very precise."
