Iowa Hawkeyes at Iowa State Availability Report: Nwankpa, Stephens Back

Week two of the college football season has passed, and game-day routines are beginning to take shape.

Recall that the Big Ten now demands availability reports from clubs two hours prior to start. Only a week ago, we received official word that defensive end Noah Shannon and cornerback Jermari Harris will be sitting out games due to their alleged involvement in the current gambling controversy.

Due to the kickoff this week, we're a few hours later, but we're here with another Hawkeyes availability report.

Noah Shannon and Jermari Harris continue to be the two primary players in this. Shannon is anticipated to miss the entire season (pending his NCAA appeal), but Harris is expected to miss this week and return the next. He has already been seen today with the players on the sidelines.

Beyond those two, Chris Reames, Reese Osgood, and Jacob Bostick are all thought to be injured and are still on the list for a second week running. Similarly, starting quarterback Cade McNamara is still doubtful after two weeks. Of course, he played the majority of Iowa's week one victory over Utah State, and despite the dubious label, it is assumed that he will start today.

The name Beau Stephens should be mentioned this week. Stephens was included in the offensive line rotation despite not being slated to start last week. We might see him added to the group of 7-8 guys getting reps up front after he missed week one with what was reportedly a bone bruise but is not noted on the availability report today.

Another well-known name that is missing from the report today is Xavier Nwankpa. There was no real anticipation that he would miss time this week because he departed early in week one with what were thought to be cramps, but any time a major player leaves early, it's worth keeping an eye on.

The only other two names worth mentioning are Jamison Heinz and Jayden Montgomery. Last week, Heinz was labeled as out while Montgomery was listed as questionable. This week, both are off the report, which is fantastic news.

These are the specifics of today's game as we advance toward kickoff in Ames.
